Ninth Annual New England Seaplane Safety Expo
With summer finally soon to arrive, spread your wings and celebrate at the Ninth Annual New England Seaplane Safety Expo on Saturday, June 13, 2009, to be held at Brandy Pond Seaplane Base (5ME) in Naples, Maine. This is an all-day event sure to interest, educate and attract all pilots: land plane, seaplane, students and those interested in learning to fly.
Sign-in with coffee and muffins begins at 8 a.m., with a Wings-fulfilling Seaplane Safety Seminar from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Following a quick coffee break, “Flying the Friendly Skies of Maine” will be presented from 10:45 to noon. The Katahdin Wings Chapter of the 99s will be grilling up a fantastic and satisfying barbecue from noon to 1 p.m. After lunch Mary Build will offer a slide presentation of “Flying to Alaska.” This presentation is about flying on wheels to Anchorage and following the Alcan Highway (which can also be done on floats), and participating pilots will be available to tell us all about their flying experiences when flying there on floats.
This is more than an opportunity for camaraderie and education. There will be raffle drawings for many items including a one year membership to the SPA and a David Clark headset. Exhibitors this year will include Wipaire, Inc., Maine Aviation with new GPS display, a new aviation artist with a surprise presentation along with the annual photography display from Sccruffy Publications.
Why not make this a extended adventure and fly in on Friday night to avoid possible weather situations. Naples, Maine is a charming small town nestled on a causeway between two spectacular lakes, right in the heart of the Lakes Region. There are ample quaint B&Bs and family motels within walking distance of Brandy Pond Seaplane base
Land pilots are strongly encouraged to join in and learn about the exhilaration of seaplane flying and will be accommodated with transportation from (and returned to) Auburn-Lewiston Airport (LEW). Arrivals at LEW needing transportation should call one day in advance to be picked up at 7 a.m., 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Please call Mary Build at 207-838-3548 for pick-up.
