It’s Time to Splash-In!

The ice is heading out and floats going back on up north, and it’s always good splash-in time in the warmer climes.  Whether you’re a seaplane pilot or just a fan, you’re wecome to attend and enjoy these upcoming events.  More information is also available on, click on Event Calendar from the Home  page.


May 1-3 – Cragun’s Lodge, East Gull Lake, MN

The 2009 Minnesota Seaplane Pilots Safety Seminar will be held at Cragun’s Lodge on East Gull Lake, Minnesota starting Friday May 1st and ending Sunday May 3rd. Details about the lodge can be seen on their website: There is plenty of sand beach and a grass strip (East Gull Lake) walking distance away or the lodge will pick you up in their van.

May 2 – City of Tavares, FL,  Lake Dora

“Planes, Trains and BBQ”  – This was a truly memorable event last year!  Great live music, local vendors, terrific BBQ’s with dozens & dozens of BBQ vendors & competitors to chose from plus real party atmosphere, & trains running all day from Tavares to Mt. Dora.  Plenty of beach, and docks, but bring an anchor.  For more information email


May 16 – Lake Guntersville, AL

We invite you to a weekend of good friends, good food and lots of seaplane flying at Wally’s Place on Lake Guntersville, AL, on Saturday, May 16th.

All amphibs and land planes are invited to the fly-in breakfast at Moontown airport(3M5) leaving from Guntersville airport(8A1) at 7:00 am. Bar-B-Q will be served abouit noon. Please call Bill Shaver’s cell (256-653-8114) if you need transport from 8A1 to town or to the splash-in site.  Camping is available at the splash-in site. A new feature this year is a ramp to expand parking for amphibs into Wally’s yard. It is wide enough to easily ramp Lakes or wider aircraft.

May 25 – Truckee Airport, Lake Tahoe, NV

The Third Annual Mike Brown Memorial Seaplane Splash-In is now set for Monday, May 25, 2009, Lake Tahoe, NV. As in years past, the day will begin with a Pancake Breakfast at the EAA Chapter 1073, Truckee Airport from 8am until 10am. Thereafter, the Beach at Obexer’s Marina will open to Seaplanes at 10am, with a BBQ Lunch being provided for Seaplane Pilots and their crews by The West Shore Association as part of their Opening Day At The Lake Festivities.  Full information is available on the website.


June 12 – 14 – Otsego County Park, Gaylord, MI

Ostego Splash-In at the Otsego County Park, Gaylord, Michigan.  Featuring skill challenging events such as take-off contests, spot landings, and bomb drops.  A lakeside BBQ dinner on Friday, with SPA updates, speakers, and schedule updates for the weekend.  On Saturday night, don’t miss Annual Banquet and awards ceremony.   To make sure no one goes away hungary, the local Boy Scouts will provide breakfast and lunch on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday.

June 13 –  Brandy Pond Seaplane Base (5ME), Naples, Maine

With summer finally soon to arrive, spread your wings and celebrate at the Ninth Annual New England Seaplane Safety Expo on Saturday, June 13, 2009, to be held at Brandy Pond Seaplane Base (5ME) in Naples, Maine. This is an all-day event sure to interest, educate and attract all pilots: land plane, seaplane, students and those interested in learning to fly.

Land pilots are strongly encouraged to join in and learn about the exhilaration of seaplane flying and will be accommodated with transportation from (and returned to) Auburn-Lewiston Airport (LEW). Arrivals at LEW needing transportation should call one day in advance to be picked up at 7 a.m., 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Please call Mary Build at 207-838-3548 for pick-up.
