Minnesota Seaplane Safety Seminar – Day 1
Today dawned with blue skies and sunshine, and a relaxed drive through Minnesota farm country to Cragun’s Resort on Gull Lake outside of Brainerd, site of the Minnesota Seaplane Association’s annual Safety Seminar. And what a location for a seaplane event! The rustic accommodations overlook the tranquil lake and a dozen seaplanes already docked and beached along the shore. It’s an idyllic site!
We’ve already met many SPA and Minnesota Seaplane Association members in the exhibit hall, and visit with other seaplane industry vendors. SPA founder David Quam, who lives only an hour or so away, is here as well supporting SPA’s presence and documenting the weekend on video. Expect to see some of that footage shortly on this blog . . .
After a dinner with spectacular picture window views of the lake, the Minnesota DOT presented a seminar on “GPS for VFR” which also provided FAA Wings credit to attendees. Tomorrow brings a full day of seminars, flying and an evening banquet.
Some have adjourned to the beach this evening for a late night bonfire by the lake. For this Floridian, the wood-burning fireplace in my lodge room seems too good to pass up!
