Bay City, Michigan, Installs New Seaplane Ramp
A story in the Bay City Times reports that Bay City, Michigan, with the help of the Michigan Department of Transportation, is replacing a deteriorating seaplane ramp at James Clements Airport (3CM). The city parks supervisor stated that the new facility will make Bay City the only full service seaplane base in the state, and hopes it will attract more seaplane traffic. The airport is reportedly used mostly by seaplanes in transit to AirVenture each year.
Public comments on the newpaper’s website were mostly critical of the project, suggesting it was too much public money for a little-used facility. SPA members, let’s patronize Bay City and support the leadership’s efforts to create a welcoming venue for seaplanes.
