A Great Loss for the Seaplane Community
It is with great sadness that SPA received word of a seaplane accident this morning on Moosehead Lake at Rockwood, Maine, in which Telford Allen, past President of SPA died. Telford’s companion Nathalie Holmes-Moody, who was a passenger in the aircraft, survived. Natalie was able to exit the amphibious Cessna 185 after it landed with the gear extended but Telford was not and was found deceased inside the submerged aircraft. Natalie was taken to the Greenville Hospital and is to be transferred to the hospital in Bangor, Maine. she was listed in stable condition Sunday night.
Telford Allen founded Telford Aviation Services in 1982 in Waterville as a mom-and-pop charter flight company. It relocated to Bangor International Airport in the 1990s and evolved into the Telford Group, a regional and national leader in both airplane parts sales and maintenance.
The company was sold in 2009 to ACC Holding LLC of Milwaukee, Wis., several years after Allen turned the running of the business over to his sons, Telford Allen III and Travis Allen.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and members of the Seaplane Pilots Association, our heart felt condolences go out to the family, and we wish Natalie a speedy recovery.
